Modified Soccer Rules
All NFHS Rules apply except
- Maximum length of the quarter shall be fifteen (15) minutes. Can be less if both coaches agree. Can also be two 30 minute halves.
- Free substitution is permitted when the ball goes over touch or goal line.
- Equipment:
- only sneakers or shoes with molded soles and molded cleats are permitted. Shoes with metal posts or spikes are not permitted.
- Shinguards MUST be worn at all times by all players
- Goalkeeper MAY wear an all-purpose type foam helmet and/or a mouthguard for protective purposes [NEW in 2023]
- One time out per quarter may be called when the ball is dead. The coach is permitted on the field during the time out to instruct the players.
- The sliding tackle and overhead scissors kick are considered dangerous play and are NOT permitted. (Penalty - IFK to opposing team)
- There is NO OVERTIME in modified games in Section 1. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD PENALTY KICKS BE USED TO BREAK A TIE !!!
- There may be a 5th "quarter" if both coaches agree. Officials working a 5th quarter are entitled to an additional payment of per the game fee schedule. Additional fees must be requested through the Game Report feature of ZebraWeb.
- In the event of any disqualification of a player(straight red card or second yellow) substitution IS ALLOWED for the disqualified player. If a team has no eligible substitute, the team may play shorthanded.
- Corner flag posts must be flexible in nature (wood, plastic, or plastic foam) and conform to the NFHS rule standard of not being less than 5 feet high. Plastic traffic cones may be substituted in place of corner flags.
- The flip throw-in shall not be permitted
- The NFHS regulation that the boys' and girls' goalie uniform jersey be numbered and all-white away uniforms shall be waived at the modified level.
